FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about holding dollars and spending in Nigeria.
What is Cheese Pay?
Cheese Pay is a Nigerian digital dollar wallet. You hold your money as USDC — a US dollar-pegged stablecoin — and send directly to any Nigerian bank account in Naira. It is available as a mobile web app with no download required.
How does Cheese Pay protect my money from naira devaluation?
When you hold money in Naira in a traditional bank, it loses value every time the exchange rate rises. Cheese Pay lets you hold your balance in USDC, which tracks the US dollar. Since 2020, the naira has lost over 70% of its value against the dollar — money held in USDC would have maintained its purchasing power.
Do I need to know about crypto to use Cheese Pay?
No crypto knowledge is needed. You sign up like a normal app, top up your wallet, and send money using the same bank-transfer flow you already know — bank name, account number, amount. Cheese Pay handles everything else invisibly.
Does the recipient need a Cheese Pay account?
No. Recipients do not need a Cheese Pay account or any crypto wallet. They receive plain Naira in their regular Nigerian bank account — GTBank, Zenith, Access, Opay, Kuda, or any other bank.
Which Nigerian banks does Cheese Pay support?
Cheese Pay supports all major Nigerian banks and fintechs including GTBank, Zenith Bank, Access Bank, First Bank, UBA, Kuda, Opay, Moniepoint, Palmpay, and more. Any bank account reachable on the Nigerian interbank settlement system (NIP) is supported.
How do I send money to a Nigerian bank account from USDC?
Tap Send, select Bank Transfer, enter the account number and bank name, enter the amount in Naira or USDC, confirm with your PIN, and send. The recipient gets Naira in their account — typically within seconds.
What are the fees on Cheese Pay?
Cheese Pay charges a small conversion fee when you send to a Nigerian bank account. The exact rate is shown before you confirm any transfer — there are no hidden charges. Cheese Gold and Black tier members receive reduced or zero conversion fees.
What are the Cheese Pay tier levels?
Cheese Pay has three tiers. Silver is the default tier for all users. Gold requires identity verification (selfie match) and unlocks higher transfer limits and reduced fees. Black is the premium tier requiring document verification and admin approval — it includes zero fees, a metal card, and priority support.
How does Cheese Pay handle identity verification (KYC)?
Cheese Pay uses a tiered KYC system. Silver tier requires basic signup. Gold tier requires BVN or NIN verification plus a selfie face-match. Black tier additionally requires document verification and is approved by the Cheese Pay team.
Is Cheese Pay safe?
Yes. Cheese Pay uses cryptographic device keys so only your registered device can authorise transfers — not just a password. USDC is held on the Stellar blockchain. Every transaction is recorded with a blockchain hash you can verify independently.
What currencies does Cheese Pay support?
Cheese Pay supports USDC and USDT (US dollar-pegged stablecoins). Outgoing transfers are always settled in Nigerian Naira. Support for additional stablecoins may be added in future.
Is Cheese Pay available outside Nigeria?
Cheese Pay is currently focused on Nigeria. The product is designed for Nigerians — including those in the diaspora — who need to send money to Nigerian bank accounts in Naira from a stablecoin balance.
